Baoquan Chen

 

Professor, Director of the Visual Computing Research Center, Deputy Director of Institute of Advanced Computing and Digital Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in 1999 from the Department of Computer Science, State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is a senior member of IEEE. He was awarded IEEE certificate of appreciation for outstanding service as chairman of IEEE visualization conference 2005 and senior chairman of IEEE visualization conference 2006. He received the Best Paper award in IEEE visualization conference 2005, McKnight Land-Grant Professorship from the University of Minnesota in 2004, the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award in 2003, and Microsoft Innovation Excellence Program recipient in 2002. His recent research projects had been supported by National Science Foundation (NSF), government labs (e.g., NRL, ARL), industry, and private donations, all in the U.S. He received the "100 Scientists Plan" Award of Chinese Academic of Science in 2008 and received the National Science Foundation Award for Outstanding Young Scientist of China in 2010.

Hui Huang

 

Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the Visual Computing Research Center. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2008 from the Mathematics Department of the University of British Columbia (UBC), under the supervision of Prof. Uri Ascher in Computer Science. The title of her Ph.D. thesis is Efficient Reconstruction of 2D Images and 3D Surfaces. Her current research interests include Computer Graphics, Geometric Modeling, Image Processing and Scientific Computing. She has published over 10 technical papers in prestigious refereed journals and conference proceedings and served as reviewer for many top international journals and conferences.

Zhanglin Cheng

 

associate professor of Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Shenzhen, China. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Institute of Automation, CAS in 2008. His research interests generally lie in computer graphics, visual computing, focusing specifically on 3D plant modeling. He is leading a project on large-scale tree modeling supported by the Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has also co-led one National High-Tech Research and Development Program (863 Program) and has been involved in dozens of scientific research projects as a core member. His research on tree modeling received media reports from several newspapers and internet media. He is recognized as a reserve High-Level Professional Talent in Shenzhen city.

Liangliang Nan

 

Associate Professor. He received his Ph.D. degree from Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Feb. 2009. His research interests mostly focus on computer graphics, computer vision and human-computer interaction with an emphasis on processing and reconstruction from point cloud, detecting structure semantic information from point cloud, 3D models and images.He has published several papers in top international conferences and journals, such as ACM SIGGRAPH (Asia) / TOG.

Xiaohua Xie

 

Assistant Professor. He received his Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics at Sun Yat-sen University in 2010. He has been a visiting student, funded by the Chinese government, working with Prof. Ching Y. Suen at Concordia University in Canada. His current research interests include object/face recognition and image processing, especially focusing on the integrated use of image and point clouds. He has published several papers in famous journals or conferences, e.g., IEEE Trans. Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, and CVPR. He owns two authorized Chinese national invention patents.

Yunhai Wang

 

Assistant Professor. He received his Ph.D. degree from Computer Network Information Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011. His current research interests include scientific visualization, information visualization and visual analytics. He has published several papers in leading journals and major conferences, e.g., IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG), Computer GraphicsForum (CGF), PacificVis and Pacific Graphics.

Qian Zheng

 

Assistant Professor. She received Master Degree from SIAT in 2009. Her main research interests are performance capture and 4D reconstruction.

Kai Xu

 

Postdoc Researcher/Assistant Professor. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2011 from School of Computer Science, National University of Defense Technology. From Nov. 2008 to Oct. 2010, he visited the GrUVi Lab of Simon Fraser University, working with Prof. Richard Zhang. His research interests are in the areas of computer graphics, especially in geometry processing. His current topics of interests include high-level shape analysis and processing, texture synthesis, and shape deformation. He has published 14 research papers, including 4 SIGGRAPH/TOG and 1 Eurographics papers. He serves as reviewer for many top international journals and conferences.

Xiaoxing Zhang

Jinjie Lin

 

Research Assistant. He received Master Degree from Department of Computer Science of Nanjing University in 2010. His main research interest is 3D modeling of urban buildings.

Xun Shi

 

Research Assistant. He received Master Degree from School of Mechatronics Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology in 2009. He has applied national invention patents and utility model patents 8 in total, of which the untility model patents have been authorized.

Cheng Liang

 

Research Assistant. She received her Master degree from South China University of Technology in 2010, where major in Digital Geometry Processing and 3D Animation. She is a research assistant in Center for Visual Computing Research, Institute of Advanced Computing and Digital Engineering, SIAT. Her main research interests include procedural modeling and GPU programming. She is now focusing on urban building modeling and rendering.

Changsong Pan

 

Research Assistant. He received his master degree from China Academy of Space Technology physical electronics specialty in 2010. Research interests are computer graphics, 3D modeling, visual simulation and virtual reality.

Jiacheng Ren

 

Graphic Design Engineer. He graduated from the Qingdao University, Academy of Fine Arts, Environment Design in June 2008. He joined VCC in 2009. His interests include art design, 3D modeling and virtual reality.

Guangfan Pan

 

Graphic Design Engineer. I recieved my B.S from Department of Art & Design XiaMen University Tankan Kee College, July, 2007, my major is Environmental Art Design. I joined VCC in June 2009. My present work includes point cloud accquisition and processing with mobile laser scanning system, photography and related design work.

Jinfeng Ou

 

UI Design Engineer. She graduated from Wuhan University in 2005 and joined SIAT in January 2010. Her interests include webpage design, art design and software UI design.

Jing Zhang

 

Centre Assistant. She received her master degree from Shenzhen University in 2011 and joined SIAT in August 2011. Her primary research interests are online education application, the design and development of multimedia web.

Na Ren

 

Centre Assistant. She joined SIAT in February 2012. Her primary duties are assist the director of VCC to handle the related matters about personnel, administrative and financial affairs.

Daniel Cohen-Or

 

Special-Retainforeign Professor of CAS, head of Department of Computer Science at Tel-Aviv University. He received a M.Sc. in Computer Science (1986) from Ben-Gurion University, and a Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science (1991) at State University of New York at Stony Brook. His current research interest includes shape modeling, surface reconstruction, and image synthesis. He has published over 100 papers on outstanding international journals and conferences, of which about 40 are on the very prestigious SIGGRAPH. He is the recipient of the 2005 Eurographics Outstanding Technical Contributions Award. Prof. Daniel Cohen-Or cooperates with Prof. Baoquan Chen on an international project of Shenzhen Scientific Plan.

Oliver Deussen

 

Special-Retainforeign Professor of CAS, Professor of Dept. of Computer and Information Science, University of Konstanz, Germany. He received his Ph.D. from Karlsruhe University in 1996. He was a professor at Work Group Computer Graphics and Media Design, Dresden University of Technology during 2000-2003. He is a member of ACM SIGGRAPH, and Gesellscharf for Informatic. He has published over 100 papers in international conferences and journals, and three papers gained best papers award. He is on program committee of various conferences, including Eurographics 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009; Eurographics Symposium on Rendering 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009; NPAR 2004, 2006; Pacific Graphics 2005, 2006; SIGGRAPH 2007, 2008;Computational Aesthetics, Workshop on Natural Phenomena.

Long Quan

 

AF Professor, Professor at the department of computer science and engineering , Hong Kong University of Science and Technolgy, IEEE Fellow. He received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from INPL, France, in 1989. Before joining the Department of Computer Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2001, He has been a French CNRS senior research scientist at INRIA in Grenoble since 1990. His research interests focus on 3D Reconstruction, Structure from Motion, Vision Geometry, and Image-based Modeling. He has served as an Associate Editor of PAMI and a Regional Editor of IVC, and is currently an editorial board member of IJCV, ELCVIA, MVA and Foundations and Trends in Computer Graphics and Vision. He has served in the conference committees of ICCV, ECCV, and CVPR and ICPR. He served as a Program Chair of ICPR 2006 Computer Vision and Image Analysis, and is a General Chair of the coming ICCV 2011 in Barcelona.

Huamin Qu

 

Visiting Professor, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His main research interests are in visualization and computer graphics. He has conducted a wide range of research on scientific visualization, information visualization, visual analytics, real time graphics systems, virtual reality, and medical imaging. He has co-authored more than 40 refereed papers including a dozen papers in the IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics. His papers appear in almost all major visualization conferences such as IEEE Visualization, IEEE InfoVis, EuroVis, and PacificVis. One of his papers is among the six best papers in IEEE Visualization 2003 and another paper receives Honorable Mention at IEEE Visualization 2009. He received a BS in Mathematics from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, an MS and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Stony Brook University. He is a winner of 2009 IBM Faculty Award.

Xin Tong

 

Visiting Professor. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Computer Graphics from Tsinghua University in 1999, then became a senior researcher in Internet Graphics Group, Microsoft Research Asia. His research interests include appearance modeling and rendering, texture synthesis, and graphics architecture and system. He has published 13 papers on the top conference(SIGGRAPH) and journal(ACM TOG) of computer graphics, with more than 10 American patents pending or confirmed. He is on program committee of Pacific Graphics, Eurogrpahics and SIGGRAPH ASIA, and is paper reviewer of IEEE TVCG, ACM TOG, PAMI and IEEE Multimedia.

Andrei Sharf

 

Visiting Professor. He received a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion Institute in 1999, and an M.Sc in Computer Science from the Tel-Aviv University in 2002. Sharf completed his Ph.D. on Surface Reconstruction Techniques for Imperfect Raw Data in 2007 under the supervision of Daniel Cohen-Or and Ariel Shamir and did his PostDoc with Prof. Nina Amenta at the Institute for Data Analysis and Visualization (IDAV), University of California at Davis. His current research interests include surface reconstruction, geometric modeling, interactive applications and parallel algorithms. He is a Class A Foreign Young Scientist of CAS of 2009.

Minglun Gong

 

Visiting Professor, associate professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta in 2003, his M.Sc. from the Tsinghua University in 1997, and his B.Engr. from the Harbin Engineering University in 1994. After graduation, he was a faculty member at the Laurentian University for four years before joined the Memorial University. Minglun’s research interests include a variety of topics in computer graphics, computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition, and optimization techniques. He has published over 50 technical papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings and served as program committee member and reviewer for international journals and conferences.

Richard Zhang

 

Visiting Professor, associate professor at Simon Fraser University, Canada, and co-director of the Graphics, Usability, and Visualization (GrUVi) Lab. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2003, and M.Sc. and B.Math from the University of Waterloo. His research interests are in the areas of computer graphics and geometry processing. Recently, he is working on various problems for shape analysis, 3D content creation, and surface reconstruction. He has published more than 50 papers on top conferences and journals including SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH Asia, Eurographics, and SGP. He was a winner of the Best Paper Award at SGP 2008 and a Most Cited Paper Award from the CAD journal in 2010.

Yangyan Li

 

Ph.D. Candidate. He received his bachelor degree from College of Computer Science, Sichuan University in 2008. His primary research interests fall in the field of Computer Graphics with an emphasis on urban scene point cloud processing, and he has one paper in SIGGRAPH 2010, one paper in SIGGRAPH 2011 and one paper in ICCV 2011.

Feilong Yan

 

Ph.D. Candidate. He received the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from XiDian University in 2008. His primary interest is computer graphics and he has one paper in SIGGRAPH ASIA 2010 and one paper in SIGGRAPH 2011.

Ke Xie

 

Ph.D. Candidate. He received the Bachelor's degree from USTB(University of science and technology Beijing ), majoring in Computer graphics.

Guowei Wan

 

Ph.D. Student of Computer Science, National University of Denfense Technology, Visiting Student of Center for Visual Computing Research, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology. Research interests are 3D city reconstruction, multi-view stereo, visual tracking.

Jiapei Zhang

 

Master student. He graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with bachelor degree of Electronic and Imformation Engineering. His research interests include 3D indoor scene modeling and understanding.

Shishi Dong

 

Bachelor student in Department of Mathematics, Nanjing University, she has been accept to be a Master student of VCC. Her research interests include image and video analysis.

Zoomin Hao

 

Bachelor student from Software Academy of SiChuan University.He has been accepted by VCC as the 2012th master student.His research is focused on Computer Vision and Computer Graphics especially in image-based 3D modeling.
