Short Biography

Baoquan Chen is a Professor of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, China. He directs the Visual Computing Research Center, also serves as the deputy director of the Institute of Advanced Computing and Digital Engineering (IACDE). His research interests generally lie in computer graphics, visualization, and human-computer interaction, focusing specifically on large-scale city modeling, simulation and visualization. His research has been supported by Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC), National "863" Program, National Science Foundation (NSF), and Microsoft Research, and private donation. Chen received an MS in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing (1994), and a second MS (1997) and then PhD (1999) in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Prior to joining SIAT he was a faculty member at Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities; there he was also a member of several interdisciplinary centers: the Digital Technology Center, the Army High Performance Computing Research Center, and the Digital Design Consortium. His was a research scientist in the Media Research Laboratory, the Courant Institute, New York University, 1999-2000, and a researcher in Computer Science and Technology Research Institute of Beijing University, 1994-5.
